Former Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini edges closer to West Ham job after leaving Hebei China Fortune

Hebei made the announcement on social media after Pellegrini guided the team to a 2-1 win over Chongqing Lifan

By Jake Polden

Manuel Pellegrini has left Chinese Super League outfit Hebei China Fortune, the club confirmed on Saturday, paving the way for the former Manchester City boss to take over at West Ham.

Hebei made the announcement on social media after Pellegrini guided the team to a 2-1 win over Chongqing Lifan in the club's final league match before a two-month break for the World Cup.

The statement read: "After amicable discussions with Mr Pellegrini, we have reached a mutual agreement.

"As of May 20, Mr Pellegrini will no longer work as the head coach of Hebei China Fortune Football Club.

"We sincerely thank Mr Pellegrini for his contribution to the club and we wish him all the best for the future."

Re: Pellegrini _ The South American John Lyall
I really don't think our younger fans quite realise what a great manager John Lyall was in his time at the club. Hard to believe the way he was treated in 1989 when in the words of Tony Gale "the club changed forever" when he was sacked at the age of 49. He learned his trade from Ron Greenwood and added man management plus a more ruthless streak, two qualities that Greenwood unfortunately lacked.
No doubt in my mind that Lyall was the club's best manager in its history. All the boys of 1986 will agree with me.

Re: Pellegrini _ The South American John Lyall
The board had little option to sack Lyall when you remember the weight of the fans’ voice in favour of him going.

I was never on board myself, but I remember thousands congrgating in front of the West stand after games to shout for his head as well as banners in the ground calling for him to go and a good bit of graffiti around Upton Park too.

I have a West Ham badge tattoo on my arm, in the scroll it says Johnny Lyell instead of West Ham United, suffice to say I understand how good he was

Lyall did make poor signings after 86, but he was badly let down by lack of money from the Board in the lead up to his sacking. He deserved the chance to bring us back up after the 89 relegation. I was disgusted by some of the fans turning against him at the time.

Re: Pellegrini _ The South American John Lyall
We went from cottee and macavennie up front to Kelly and rosenior and I'm sure that wasn't lyalls choice. I worked with a fella whose next door neighbour was on the board who said that at the end of 86 lyall asked the board for money for 2 players and he would Win the league and they laughed at him. Then sold cottee and macavennie

Re: Pellegrini _ The South American John Lyall
John Lyall is the best manager wr have ever had. The board that sacked him and those fans that wanted him out should have been " careful of what you wish for" Since Lyall ae have had 12 managers in 29 years. Prior to Lyall we had 4 managers in 72 years.

Re: Pellegrini _ The South American John Lyall
From La Tercera... a description of what West Ham is about through South America eyes.

Manuel Pellegrini enlists his return to England. The Chilean coach runs with advantage to take over West Ham United and, therefore, will land tomorrow in London to negotiate his return to the Premier League. He is the favorite of the leadership of the Hammers, who sees him with the skills to boost the qualitative leap of the club. The title he won with Manchester City in the 2013-2014 season is his main letter of introduction and his current contract in China should not be an obstacle.
West Ham is synonymous with tradition in English football. Founded in 1895, it has historically been the representative picture of the working class. His livelihood, moreover, is far from triumphs. In fact, the club has just three FA Cup titles, one Community Shield, one European Cup Winners Cup and one Intertoto Cup. Six crowns in 122 years. Meager harvest that has not hit its popularity.
After a six-month stint of David Moyes, who took over the technical direction solely to avoid relegation in the last year, the board wants more. His idea is that the team can receive an injection of category to, thus, fight at least for a place in international tournaments.
In that context, Pellegrini falls perfect. During the current campaign, West Ham had already invested to form a campus that, under the technical direction of the Engineer, could be strengthened.
The cost of the current template is US $ 257 million (10th most expensive in the league) and has, a priori, good values, such as the Argentinean Manuel Lanzini, the Portuguese Joao Mario and the Austrian Marko Arnautovic, who arrived from the Stoke City in exchange for US $ 33 million, being the most expensive signing in the history of the team.
When Pellegrini was dismissed from the City, before the end of the 2015-16 season, he explained in an interview with The Guardian his way of playing, which, extrapolating it to the reality of the current West Ham, invites the illusion.
"I like that my teams are speed. That we can constantly generate the one against one and that the counterattacks are as fast as possible. I need creative players, "said the coach.
Under that prism, in his eventual new house he has material to spare. Two centers that have not yet reached 30, already tested in the category, such as the Italian Ogbonna and the English Cresswell. A fast and young side on the left, like the Congolese Masuaku and one experienced by the right hand, like the Argentine Zabaleta.
In the middle he has a good assured game. The Senegalese Kouyaté, the Spanish Obiang and the English Noble and Michael Antonio, in addition to the named Lanzini and Joao Mario (should define its continuity) could be favored with the former Real Madrid in banking. "I like players who are technically gifted and have great physical will. I like that my teams recover the ball as close as possible to the rival area and, when we have the ball, get to play, "explained the strategist on his own proposal.
In the attack, he has Arnautovic, in addition to the Mexican Javier Hernández and the English Andy Carroll.
Expectations are high, since it also has several young people who could further enhance their idea and with an average of US $ 40 million to invest in new reinforcements and thus strengthen the extremes, which emerges as the weakest area.
The whole identity of the team is based on the passion of 60 thousand fans who fill the Olympic stadium in London every week, where they have been operating for two seasons, after leaving Upton Park, their home for 115 years, since 1904 .
The fans are already excited about a 64-year-old Chilean. They want to continue singing the legendary I'm forever blowing bubbles, a song that speaks of love to all test and resistance to adversity. "Beautiful bubbles in the air. They fly so high that they almost touch the sky. Then, like my dreams, they vanish and die, "says the song. Will Pellegrini get into the bubble and prevent them from bursting?

From Chile: West Ham ‘waiting’, $40m for Pellegrini to spend, Hammers’ culture explained

The Chilean press have been reporting for a while now that Manuel Pellegrini to West Ham is a strong possibility.

Over the past few days they’ve ramped that up, and yesterday morning reported the former Manchester City manager would be holding talks on Sunday and it’s ‘highly probable’ he’ll sign a contract.

Saturday’s edition of Chilean newspaper La Tercera covers the same thing. West Ham are now ‘waiting’ for Pellegrini to arrive, and as long as everything goes smoothly it’s expected he’ll be the club’s new manager.

It’s stated West Ham will have ‘around $40m to invest’, although that could be speculation.

This is all interesting for Chilean football fans, and La Tercera explain what’s special about the Hammers, and it’s nice for fans of the club to see how they’re perceived.

West Ham are dubbed ‘the workers’ team of England’: ‘West Ham is synonymous with tradition in English football. Founded in 1895, it has historically been the representative picture of the working class.’

La Tercera then have to tell the readers there’s not been much success recently, but add it hasn’t harmed the popularity of the club.

The ‘whole identity’ of West Ham is said to be based on the club’s supporters, and I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles is explained to Chileans: ‘a song that speaks of love forever tested and resistance to adversity’

La Tercera hope Pellegrini is the man to stop the West Ham bubble from continually bursting.

Nice isn’t it?
